What is Ayushman Bharat?

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana has been implemented from 25th September 2018. It is a national healthcare
program that aims to protect 10 crore families and almost 50 crore individuals by providing a cover of Rs. 5 lakh
per year per family for the hospitalization expenses along with other medical services. The people to be benefited
have been marked on the basis of the Socio-Economic Caste Census. The two main objectives of this Modicare
scheme are:
  • To create a health infrastructure that can provide comprehensive primary health care services. 
  • To provide health insurance to 40$ of the country’s population, which is deprived of secondary and tertiaryservices. 


Following are some key benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme
  • The scheme covers all kinds of diseases, along with pre and post-hospitalization expenses. 
  • There is no bar in the scheme on the basis of gender, age, or family size. 
  • The state government will be forming a State Health Agency to implement the scheme.
  • The health cover includes all secondary and most of the tertiary services. 




Eligibility in rural and urban areas
  • Family with disabled member and no able-bodied adult.
  • Families with one room which has a ‘kutcha wall and roof’.
  • Electrician and mechanic
  • Beggar, sweeper, gardener and sanitation worker 
  • Construction worker, plumber, painter, cart puller, a rickshaw puller.
  • Watchman, security guard, coolie and other head load workers.
  • Family with female head and no male in the age of 16-59.
  • SC/ST households
  • Bonded laborers released legally.
  • Home-based worker, handicraft worker and tailor
  • Domestic Workers and ragpickers
  • Family with a female head and no male in the age of 16-59.
